From this morning's Roll Call:
One Democratic consultant well-connected with the party apparatus said that while “this [race] has always been at the top of the radar screen because of who he is ... now it is because of what the situation is.”
Right. A crisis. The article also says:
In June, Daschle pledged unilaterally to keep all third-party advertising on his behalf out of the state, but his spokesman said Wednesday that the Senator had not yet contacted DSCC Chairman Jon Corzine (N.J.) to request the ads be pulled.“Senator Daschle has asked all third-party groups to stay out and he stands by that request,” said Daschle deputy campaign manager Dan Pfeiffer. “As Thune has said all along, we don’t have direct control over these groups.”
But wait, last summer the Daschle campaign said Thune could stop all these outside ads in a minute. Yes, but that was when the Daschle campaign wanted to use the issue as a club and SD's media played along. Anyway, why isn't Daschle demanding that these groups stay out like he insisted Thune do last summer?? Oh right, because he wasn't in the least bit sincere about his request last summer--it was just posturing.
