Note the role of George Soros and Jim Jordan in the Media Fund, as described in this Boston Globe article:
The Media Fund, financed in part by billionaire George Soros, is expected to begin airing commercials in the next several days. "The object is to give Democrats cover during a Republican advertising onslaught and to make sure that the national political environment stays favorable for Democrats everywhere," said Jim Jordan, who was Kerry's campaign manager until a staff shake-up last fall, and now is a spokesman for the Media Fund.
Also, don't forget that not only was Jordan Kerry's campaign manager, he was also Tim Johnson's press secretary for his South Dakota Senate race in 1996 (see this rather odd story about his role in that race). I actually read the article in the current New Yorker earlier in the week that this article is referring to. Excerpt:
Soros was described by the New Yorker as close to Harold Ickes, a former Clinton deputy chief of staff who runs the Media Fund, one of many Soros-supported "527" groups. Soros described him as a "real pro."
Note this article about the connection between George Soros and Daschle. Excerpt:
"I have made the rejection of the Bush doctrine the central project of my life for the next year," Soros said in the March 22 Boston Globe. "That is why I am ready to put my money where my mouth is." As the OpenSecrets.org website shows, he also has drawn from his $7 billion fortune to assist prominent liberal Democrats including South Dakota Senator Tom Daschle, former presidential contender Howard Dean, and presumptive nominee John Kerry.
Beyond the Soros and Jordan connection, note the connection to former Clinton Deputy Chief of Staff Harold Ickes, who runs the Media Fund. Remember that in Washington Post Clinton Chief of Staff John Podesta said after the impeachment that Daschle saved Clinton:
Faced with impeachment, however, Daschle was determined to save Clinton's presidency. ... The Democrats had the votes to save Clinton, they just had to hang onto them. And so at the White House, Chief of Staff John D. Podesta decided "to absolutely put our fate in the hands of Tom Daschle." Whatever the minority leader wanted, that was it.
So Podesta, Ickes, Jordan, and Soros owe Daschle. And they don't want the chief critic and obstructionist of President Bush to lose. And don't forget that Daschle has been bashing "outside groups" coming into South Dakota for more than a year.
