SDP notes the fatigue factor that today's Washington Post story mentioned. I've also been surprised when a few people who I assumed were Daschle voters said they're sick of him. It seems like a form of populism--'he thinks he's Mr. Bigshot with his $3 million mansion and weekends in the Hamptons but he's not getting my vote!' SDP also mentions that Karl Mundt was the only South Dakota Senator elected to a 4th term. It's true. And his opponent that year, 1966, was a complete buffoon from White Lake, so I think we should keep in mind that he didn't have much competition.
