DASCHLE DUCKS SIOUX FALLS DEBATES THIS WEEKDucked Pierre debate for Mississippi trial lawyer fundraiser
SIOUX FALLS – Debates proposed this week in Sioux Falls by the Sioux Empire Fair, KSFY-TV, and the South Dakota school boards and school administrators that were accepted by South Dakota Republican Senate candidate John Thune have been rejected by Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle.
“The Sioux Empire Fair, KSFY-TV and the South Dakota school boards and administrators proposed debates for this week in good faith,” Thune said. “Unfortunately, Senator Daschle is once again ducking debates hosted by respected South Dakota organizations.”
Last week, Daschle chose to have a fundraiser in Oxford, Mississippi with trial lawyers rather than participate in a forum sponsored by the South Dakota Association for Career and Technical Education on Wednesday, August 4, in Pierre.
The Daschle fundraiser in Mississippi was hosted by the Scruggs Law Firm which has collected hundreds of millions of dollars in fees from lawsuits against tobacco companies.
While Daschle’s refusal resulted in the cancellation of the Sioux Empire Fair/KSFY-TV debate, Thune will still speak to the Associated School Boards of South Dakota and the School Administrators of South Dakota on Friday, August 13 at 11:30 AM at the Ramkota Inn in Sioux Falls.
