One of the clearest indications of monopoly power is high profits. Thanks to some internal Gannett financial information leaked to the Nashville Scene, it can now be revealed that the Argus Leader's profitability in 1997, the last year for which data is available, was a whopping 46%! Wow, it pays to have a monopoly!
Let's just say I think they can afford to hire a few more reporters so that they can actually cover the major developments in this Senate race.
