On April 28, I noted how Daschle was implying he favored tort reform when in South Dakota and how the Argus Leader had not reported on Daschle's positions and the fate of all the tort reform bills in the Senate. Again, they should, if they want to focus on the big issues dividing the candidates. Quentin Riggins has done some research and discovered that biggest donor to Daschle is trial lawyers. Today's Wall Street Journal notes that the "trial lawyers' PAC has given $1.3 million to Democrats and just $106,500 to Republicans" since 2003. In the last 14 months, Daschle has lead efforts to oppose cloture--i.e. prevent a vote--on 9 tort reform bills in the Senate. Shouldn't that be an "issue" the Argus is focusing on? The main editorial in today's WSJ is also about the need to make a breakthrough on tort reform. Also see this.
