Remember, when Tom Daschle is in South Dakota he brags about how he supports President Bush 75% of the time and, again in South Dakota, he lauds the progress and greatness of the operation in Iraq. In Washington, Daschle hangs with the Michael Moore crowd and his good friend Al Gore, who yesterday compared the Bush administration to the Nazis. As for Daschle's attendance at the Michael Moore premier, the Argus Leader has dutifully ignored the story, but SDP says KELO-Land TV had a blurb about it last night. Finally, the Thune campaign has released a statement exposing Daschle on the Moore premier. Excerpt:
Filmmaker Michael Moore, who described Americans as “the dumbest people on the planet” who “suffer from an enforced ignorance” and who’s “stupidity is embarrassing,” was embraced by Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle last night.Daschle was a special guest last night at the private “red carpet premier” of Moore’s Bush-bashing movie “Fahrenheit 9/11” in Washington, D.C.
Earlier yesterday, Daschle spoke on the Senate floor where “he implored Republicans and Democrats to work together to improve relations and ‘end the cycle of partisan retaliation’,” according to today’s New York Times. He went on to say he wanted the Senate to “create more opportunities to increase cross-party understanding.”
“How can Tom Daschle’s pious calls for understanding be taken seriously when he embraces someone a few hours later who thinks Americans are dumb, ignorant and embarrassing?” asked John Thune for U.S. Senate campaign manager Dick Wadhams.
According to MSNBC Interactive on December 8, 2003: “Michael Moore continues to have unkind words for his fellow countrymen. On his international book tour, the author of ‘Dude, Where’s My Country?’ was asked what he thought of Americans. ‘They are possibly the dumbest people on the planet . . .in thrall to conniving, thieving, smug pricks,’ he replied. We Americans suffer from an enforced ignorance. We don’t know about anything that’s happening outside our country. Our stupidity is embarrassing.”
I wonder how embracing a man who thinks Americans are dumb and compares the administration to fascists does in Daschle's focus groups?
