Here's a blurb from Dave Kranz today:
Herseth's victory leaves an unanswered question for everyone. What does her win mean for Daschle's re-election chances? Daschle campaigned with Herseth at several events in the past few days and sent out a mailing for her. But curiosity remains. Can voters keep three Democrats in Congress? That will be hotly debated until early Nov. 3, after votes are counted.
Um, well, lots of commentators have said it hurts Daschle, as all this week's links indicated (just scroll down). It goes beyond "curiosity." Experts are explicitly making the case that it hurts Daschle. Even though Kranz usually loves to quote Sabato and others who have made this argument, they don't get any ink today. Nor does the Argus Leader's own poll which showed that 25% of voters are "less likely" to vote for Daschle because Herseth won.
