Today's Washington Post features an article about the US Senate and all the upcoming votes, which will make Daschle's life very difficult: gun control, Laci Peterson law, judges, tax cuts, flag burning amendment, and gay rights:
Republicans openly welcome the discomfort that votes on issues such as gun control might cause Kerry, Edwards and other Democrats, now and later this year. "The Senate floor is full of bear traps," said Eric Ueland, deputy chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.).
It could be a long March for Daschle, who is on the wrong side of all these issues given his Red State constituency. It will also be interesting to see how often Tim Johnson abandons Daschle, who saved Johnson's seat in 2002. He already did it last week on gun locks and Stephanie Herseth, the House candidate, did it on the gay marriage amendment.
UPDATE: Sibby Online quotes a report saying that Daschle is "promising gun control groups that [Democrats] are 'solid' for the gun show and assault weapons amendments."
