See the compilation of polls at Real Clear Politics on the Senate race: 6 show Thune leading, 5 show Daschle leading, and one is a tie. The average spread is Thune by 0.5%. So it's close! In addition to the two polls released Monday and Tuesday showing a slight Thune edge, there's another poll in the Argus Leader this morning indicating a 49%-47% Daschle edge. One problem with the latter poll, however, is that it was taken before the devastating new ad began running in which Daschle is saying "I'm a DC resident." The poll does note that Daschle's share of the Republican vote has dropped from 18% to 13%, indicating that SD Republicans are coming home. The Rasmussen poll yesterday also showed Thune's share of the Democratic vote growing to 18%. The Argus poll doesn't have it that high, but it seems that pro-life Democrats are leaving Daschle over his cynical manipulation of the issue and his grandstanding in front of NARAL and Emily's List.
